The vacation and third-birthday whirlwind have come to a close, and the excitement is wearing off. Bliss is ready for a few days without beaches, parties, picnics or airplanes I think – she stayed in her pjs til 11 this morning, despite her earlier suggestions that we go to the children’s museum.
To ease back into the blog, here are a few snippets and short thoughts, in no particular order:
♥ NPH is a genius, and seems like a genuinely nice guy (from what I can tell from @ActuallyNPH) so watching the opening of the Tonys is fun. Watching most of the Tonys, especially when they keep talking about Newsies, pokes and prods my old theater self and I start looking up local auditions. Maybe missing theater is related to missing liturgical leadership? Or maybe singing and dancing is just plain fun.
♥ Puerto Rico is phenomenally beautiful in every way. Watching Bliss see the ocean for the first time was amazing and heart-attack-producing, since three-year-olds who’ve never seen the ocean don’t really understand the concept of “waves” or “undertow”
♥ Watching cable news in the airport on the way home from a relaxing vacation, even for a few minutes while your kiddo sleeps in the stroller, is a bad idea and a total buzz kill.
♥ Kids and teens bringing the stories of God to life with humor and music is deeply spiritual in a crazy kind of way. Not contemplative, certainly, but such a blessing. The blessing is magnified when your three-year-old is excited to see the big kids leading in church, and actually looks up from her Sesame Street coloring book to watch them everyone once in a while.
Thank you God for vacation and musicals and family. Amen.
